Founder's Statement

As we develop our buildings and infrastructure we are naturally led to make changes to the existing structures that form part of our heritage. These structures also suffer from weathering and decay with time. It is important for our future as a nation to ensure we have a detailed database of these historic features for reference and preservation.

With a digital archive of architectural details, we can inspire design, support education, and enable the recreation of elements that may be lost to age or redevelopment. Britain’s architectural identity risks being simplified into straight lines and smooth faces, but these historic details deserve to be remembered, understood, and preserved.

Throughout my 8 years in structural engineering, I’ve had the privilege of working on historic halls, manors, houses, and hotels. I’ve seen unique details removed and forgotten, often without any record of how they once were. This needs to change. Even if preservation in place is not practical, we can, at the very least, record these items with precision so they can be viewed, studied, or recreated in the future.
